Victorian Etruscan Revival Pearl Pendant in 14K Gold
You don't come across pieces like this every day.
This Victorian Etruscan Revival pendant showcases the intricate cannetille work that made this style so desirable during the late nineteenth century. Inspired by ancient Etruscan jewellery discovered in tomb excavations near Rome, jewellers of the Victorian era sought to recreate the elaborate goldwork and granulated decoration that captivated the fashion world of the time.
At the centre of this pendant is a single pearl surrounded by a halo of twelve pearls, all framed by beautifully executed cannetille wirework. The finely coiled gold decoration demonstrates the level of hand craftsmanship required to create pieces of this quality. Today, cannetille jewellery is highly sought after, as the techniques used to produce it are rarely practiced and are considered by many to be a lost art.
The pearls currently set in the pendant are cultured pearls and may be later replacements for the original pearls. This is not uncommon in jewellery of this age and does not detract from the pendant's visual appeal or historical character.
