English Five Diamond Ring with Fleur-de-Lys Shoulders, c. 1915–1916
This English antique ring is crafted from rich 18 karat yellow gold and set with five graduating antique diamonds, with the largest diamond positioned at the centre.
The handmade setting features beautifully carved prongs and finely detailed fleur-de-lys motifs on the shoulders, all of which remain remarkably crisp and well preserved. The excellent condition of these details is a testament to the care this ring has received over the past century.
Five-stone diamond rings were a popular and romantic design during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and were often given to commemorate anniversaries or other important milestones. Today, this versatile ring could be worn as a wedding band, anniversary ring, stacking ring, or distinctive right-hand ring.
The band bears Birmingham assay marks and a date letter corresponding to 1915–1916.
Inside the band is a hand-inscribed number, which appears to read "5240." Its meaning has been lost to time, but it adds another layer of intrigue to this charming English jewel.
The ring is currently a US size 8¼.
