Retro Synthetic Ruby and Diamond Ring

ƒ;1,858.00

We love this retro ring with its characteristic volute motif !!

It's handmade and It's quite heavy.
The old cut diamonds have that sparkle we love; It's a fun style that you don't come across often and would be a great unique addition to the jewel box!

It's a piece we have considered keeping due to how much we love it, so we truly hope it goes to a good home.

The ring is in excellent condition - it probably wasn't worn often!

The retro era saw the peak of old Hollywood: glamorous movie stars with fabulous bold, colourful, and large jewellery appear on the golden screen.

Designs like the Van Cleef and Arpels Ballerina brooches came into existence along with other famous pieces like the Cartier Panthers and Caged Birds.

The retro era of jewellery didn't have a long window of production and was greatly influenced by World War II but the style was noticeably different from what came before. It had a futuristic/industrial look to it with thick gas pipe style chains and bold bombe style rings (to name a few), all with motifs of volutes, scrolls, ribbons or fans, set with colourful gems and mixed gold colours.
The hard angles of the Art Deco period changed and softened into a more natural style.

During this time, as the war was going on and supplies were short, a lot of these pieces were made with higher karat gold and precious gems were from a customer's existing jewels that were reworked to be "in vogue" again.
This is why you can come across mixed older cut gems and diamonds in some of these pieces.

A lot of the retro pieces were melted down as the designs changed and people wanted things to be reworked, so there aren't too many examples left.

It's very common for jewellery from this era to have colourful synthetic gemstones alongside diamonds and set in many different colours of gold.

The ring is handmade from 14 karat white gold and we would date it circa 1940s

The current size is 4 ½.
