Antique French Victorian Garnet Brooch

ƒ;3,552.00

This handmade antique victorian brooch of french origin contains 1.65 carats of beautiful old mine cut red garnets set in silver that is backed by 14 karat yellow gold. The top of the brooch is silver with the back of the piece being made from 14 karat yellow gold.

This is a great example of how the victorians used silver on top of gold to prevent the silver tarnish from staining their skin or clothing and to still have the desired look of a white metal.
This method was used before white gold was invented or when platinum was very hard to come by or non-existent in jewellery.

There is also a little loop on the back of the brooch - we believe a bale could be added, giving you the option to wear as a pendant.

It's a beautiful piece that we find ourselves admiring whenever it crosses our paths.

This brooch bears the domestic eagle hallmark of the paris, france assay office that identifies it as being minimum 750 gold fineness. Import items have a different hallmark, thus we know it was fabricated in france.

This item comes with a verification report from a certified independent appraiser.
