The center diamond is a transitional cut and it faces up eye clean and performs very well - it would make for a very special shimmering engagement ring!
The transitional cut loosely began to be produced in the late 1910s/ early 1920s until the 1940s while diamond cutters were experimenting with improving the old european cut, which eventually led to the birth of the modern round brilliant cut we know today.
Transitional cut diamonds are quite popular and because they were only produced within a small time frame, it makes them rare.
The unique cut and the way they disperse light due to their chunkier checkerboard facets also makes them highly sought after. They even have their own collectors niche in the market.
Quite a lot of them were recut into the modern round-brilliant cut during the later years, so there are even less available now.
This ring style was very popular throughout the 1950s, so we believe the band may date to this era. The older cut diamond would have been set into this band during this time.
The ring is currently a size 8 ¼.
